VMV Hypoallergenics: Pioneering women’s rights and employee wellbeing initiatives

By Eileen Mencias

As Women’s Month unfolds in March across the Philippines, Laura Verallo de Bertotto, CEO of VMV Hypoallergenics, takes pride in spotlighting the company’s distinctiveness in its offerings to women and its workforce.

Founded by her trailblazing dermatologist mother, Dr. Vermen M. Verallo-Rowell, VMV sets itself apart in its 45th year by championing a misogyny-free environment and an array of products devoid of fragrances, dyes, parabens, and preservatives—all clinically proven,” said Bertotto.

With a remarkable 87.5% of its leadership roles occupied by women, VMV Hypoallergenics has been at the forefront of providing extended maternity and paternity leaves for both parents since 2016, including allowances for doctor appointments, school engagements, and pet-related emergencies.

Since 2013, the company has also implemented extended vacation leaves, as Bertotto emphasizes the necessity of rejuvenation for all.

Since 1999, VMV Hypoallergenics has been a proponent of telecommuting to alleviate stress among its staff and management, alongside adopting a shorter work week since 2015.

Bertotto highlights VMV’s commitment to offering flexible workplace options since 2018, underscoring the importance of company culture over physical location.

Furthermore, the company has been conducting psychological first aid training since 2019 to combat mental health stigma.

“We take great pleasure in presenting our ‘VMVital Stats,’ illustrating the significant role of women at VMV Hypoallergenics and our contributions to promoting health, joy, and balance worldwide,” said Bertotto, attributing these qualities as the secret ingredients in all their products.
