Sending money from abroad just got easier with the rollout of GCash Overseas, which allows SIM card users from select countries to create their own e-wallet accounts.
For now, the Ayala-owned fintech firm’s new feature is limited to SIM card users in Japan, Australia and Italy. Mobile phone subscribers in these countries can use their telco-assigned numbers to create a GCash account.
Using international SIM cards provides an easier way to transact, especially for receiving notifications for fund transfers and one-time PINs to authorize transactions. Previously, Filipinos abroad need to maintain their Philippine SIM cards on roaming so they can transact via GCash.
The program has been approved by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and is currently under pilot testing for an initial batch of 1,000 foreign SIM card users. Full launch is expected later this year.
