Supporting MSMEs: Congress introduces bill for shared production facilities

A bill has been proposed by Congressmen to support the Department of Trade and Industry’s initiative of establishing shared production facilities for small businesses.

House Bill No. 8421 aims to bolster the production capabilities of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by filling the gaps in the local enterprises’ production value chain.

Antique Representative Antonio B. Legarda, Jr., the primary advocate of the bill, emphasized that it would not only strengthen MSMEs but also foster innovation and enable them to produce a wide range of sophisticated products and services.

The Department of Trade and Industry’s Shared Service Facilities (SSF) program, initiated in 2013, has been instrumental in creating communal centers equipped with machinery and equipment for the utilization of MSMEs.

Through this program, more than 3,000 facilities have been established, benefiting 500,000 MSMEs and generating 200,000 job opportunities.
