How Goldilocks franchisees are preserving tradition, one neighborhood at a time

Goldilocks Bakeshop, a beloved Filipino brand under the Sy family’s SM group, is taking its success to new heights through a strategic expansion plan focused on franchise partnerships.

The secret ingredient? Deeply embedded roots in the neighborhoods they serve.

For 2024, Goldilocks plans to add 30 new stores owned and operated by franchisees.

“Each of our franchisees is deeply embedded in their communities and this intimate local knowledge is crucial because it allows each bakeshop to feel less like a chain and more like a neighborhood store,” said Goldilocks COO Jerson Go Uy.

This philosophy resonates with franchise owners like Henry Gosyco, whose love affair with Goldilocks began in his high school days. Back then, a taste of their classic mamon or polvoron felt like a special treat. Today, as a Tacloban franchisee for over 16 years, Gosyco’s passion extends beyond his stores. He actively participates in local programs, reflecting the brand’s commitment to giving back.

This spirit of community is a two-way street. Goldilocks actively supports its franchise partners, offering extensive training and resources.

The bond goes even deeper, as demonstrated during Typhoon Yolanda. When Tacloban was devastated, Goldilocks stood by Gosyco and other franchisees, helping them rebuild not just their businesses, but the local spirit.

“It was during these challenging times that the support of our dedicated team, the resilience of the local communities, and the support of Goldilocks and the SM Group played a pivotal role in our efforts to rebuild,” said Gosyco.

Dr. Martin Martinez, another franchisee, shares Gosyco’s passion. He remembers being drawn to the warm and welcoming feeling of a Goldilocks store as a child.

“I remember stepping into a Goldilocks in Mandaluyong for the first time when I was 12 and immediately felt warm and welcomed by the homey feeling of the store and the taste of the food, especially the mamon,” he said.

Uy said Goldilocks’ franchise partners play a key role in fostering community connections that help drive positive economic impact.

Inspired by this community spirit, franchisee Blanca Bondoc keeps her stores open early for Simbang Gabi, a tradition for churchgoers attending pre-dawn masses.

Through strong partnerships and a commitment to community, Goldilocks is ensuring its continued success for generations to come.
