Grab PH told to explain how price surges are calculated

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has ordered Grab Philippines to submit details on the computation of its “surge fees” and “short trip ride” schemes.

In a hearing, the LTFRB en banc instructed Grab Philippines to show all documents on how they charge fees for certain ride distances, often pegged at P85. The next hearing is scheduled on January 12.

Grab said it is ready to cooperate with the LTFRB.

“Despite the shortage of drivers, Grab is making every possible effort to support commuters and existing driver-partners – while still remaining compliant with the fare matrix of the LTFRB,” Grab said.

“Grab hopes to put to rest these unfounded allegations, and address the most important issue at hand: resolving the country’s long-standing transport challenges for every Filipino commuter,” it added.
