DTI’s e-commerce push: Advancing MSMEs in the digital landscape

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has commenced this year’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Development Week with the introduction of two initiatives aimed at taking the sector online.

Chaired by the DTI, the MSME Development Council has rolled out the Philippine E-Commerce Platform (PEP) and the Digitalization of the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Philippines.

PEP stands as the government’s inaugural omnichannel platform, with a mission to promote local businesses and facilitate the digital expansion of Filipino entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, DTI announced its collaboration with SOMAGO to offer OTOP-assisted MSMEs a cutting-edge online store, locally based in the Philippines, and established in 2021. SOMAGO serves as an e-commerce platform, providing a marketplace for diverse products and services.

DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual emphasized the importance of aiding MSMEs in upgrading their technologies, enhancing workforce skills, and expanding their operations.

Leveraging digital tools and platforms is seen as a key strategy to elevate the competitiveness of MSMEs, paving the way for their growth and success in the digital era.
