Conditional cash transfer program set to receive P112.8 billion in proposed budget

The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), a conditional cash transfer initiative, is poised to receive a notable funding increase as part of the proposed 2024 National Expenditure Program, with a substantial allocation of P112.8 billion.

This funding injection is intended to provide crucial assistance to 4.4 million eligible households spread across the nation.

The proposed allocation for the program in 2024 represents a marked increase of P10.23 billion compared to the P102.61 billion budget earmarked in the 2023 General Appropriations Act.

“The recommended budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 showcases an augmentation of P3.725 billion when contrasted with the actual utilization of P109.111 billion in FY 2022. This surge stems from the expanding number of students, shifting from 1.493 million senior high school students in FY 2023 to an estimated 1.628 million SHS students in FY 2024, all of whom will be granted an educational allowance,” the budget chief said.

The 4Ps program functions as a targeted strategy aimed at the most vulnerable families, operating as a means to enhance the health, nutrition, and education of children aged 0-18. The beneficiaries are identified through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction.

The proposed budget increase underpins the Philippines’ commitment to elevating the well-being of its most underserved communities, further emphasizing the government’s dedication to social development and equitable progress.
