CDO Foodsphere’s journey from tocino to tuna

CDO Foodsphere Inc. had its humble beginnings, selling tocino and cured meats.

However, the company’s chairman and co-founder, Jose “Pepe” Ong, was always drawn to the ocean’s richness, a fascination cultivated during his early years in Malabon. This passion led him to pursue a Biology degree and even teach the subject for two years.

In 2009, CDO introduced San Marino Corned Tuna, a product born out of Ong’s deep love for the sea’s treasures. It became one of the first in the local market to feature an easy-open can. A year later, CDO entered the competition by challenging the market leader with the launch of San Marino Tuna Flakes in Oil.

Buoyed by this success, CDO continued its innovation in canned fish products, introducing the convenient San Marino Tuna Paella, a ready-to-eat rice meal in a can. Expanding its fish offerings, CDO introduced a premium and gourmet line of bottled fish, including San Marino Premium Yellowfin Tuna in Olive Oil, San Marino Premium Spanish Sardines, and San Marino Gourmet Tuyo.

Under the CDO brand, the company has also introduced more affordable options such as CDO SeaQuest Tuna Flakes in Oil and CDO SeaQuest Tuna Hot & Spicy.
