BIR allows taxpayers to file 2022 income tax returns anywhere without penalties

Taxpayers can now file and pay their 2022 annual income tax returns from anywhere without facing penalties, as long as they do so on or before April 17, 2023, according to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

This new memorandum was issued by BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. to improve taxpayer services and make it more convenient for individuals to pay their taxes accurately and on time.

Under the guidelines laid out in memorandum circular no. 32-2023, taxpayers required to use the electronic filing and payment system (eFPS) must file their annual income tax returns online and pay taxes due through authorized agent banks where they are enrolled.

Those who cannot use the eFPS because their enrollment is still in process or their forms are not yet available can file their annual income tax returns through the eBIRForms system.

Taxpayers using eBIRForms can pay through any authorized agent bank or through various electronic payment gateways, such as Development Bank of the Philippines’ Pay Tax Online, Land Bank of the Philippines Link.Biz Portal, PayGate, or PESONet facility.

Those filing their annual income tax returns manually can pay in cash up to P20,000 or with checks payable to the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Seniors or persons with disabilities filing their own returns may manually file their returns with the regional district office in three copies using electronic or computer-generated returns in legal size bond paper.

Those qualified for substituted filing but choose to file their ITRs for scholarships, foreign travel requirements, or loans may also file manually.
